I was in Bountiful dropping a couple off and planned to go back to the airport to get more people because they had bonuses there. Then I got a ride downtown at the Smart Home Arena where the Jazz play. I pulled up and there was a lady with pink hair waiting for me. She said hi cheerfully but the spirit told me that she wasn’t cheerful.
I asked her how she was doing and she said fine. Then I asked, what’s wrong you’re not doing great are you? She just started to cry and said that She said she walked in and found him with a girl in the bed, her bed, in the house that she pays for. She was devastated. She said that she had suspicions before but catching him was destroying her.
I felt impressed to tell her that she was better off without him and that he was not even close to good enough for her. I felt to tell her that she knew this and she needed to hang out with a better class of men. She said, I’m done with men. I got this guy on the rebound from my divorce and I am about finished.
The spirit guided me through a description of dating and courting that goes back thousands of years where men would prove themselves to the girls and to their family. They would prove themselves and their intentions and show what they could be and who they were before sex.
I told her that for thousands of years this is how it’s been and the reason why we did it was so that you build a fabric and a community around your relationship and then the marriage first. then sex becomes the binding moment of the contract. “Like signing the contract”? is what she said. I said that’s absolutely right. She said, we’ve gone way away from that haven’t we? I said yes.
I told her that nowadays we look at being able to sleep with anyone as an expression of who we are or a civil right to be pronounced rather than a sacred covenant between a husband and a wife as it should be. She said I never thought about it that way but that feels right. I then had in my mind a vision of a little girl being abused by a mother and a father and in particular evil around the father.
I told her that she had been abused when she was a child and she said yes, by my mother and father. Right then I had an impression of the spirit that her father had sexually abused her too but I didn’t want to make that accusation so I asked to her, who sexually abused you? She paused then cried and said my father, how did you know? No one knows that.
My heart was breaking for her and the sadness was very profound and deep. Along with the sadness came a wave of love and I knew her father in heaven was sad but that he loved her and he wanted me to let her know.
I asked her if she had heard of our church and she said yes. I said when we’re baptized we get the gift of the Holy Ghost and what that does is it allows God to walk with us and whisper truth to us. He gives us the gift of prophecy and revelation and tonight God wanted me to know and tell you this information so that he could put his arms around you and let you know that you should listen to things I’m saying.
She began to openly sob and bawl in the car. I asked her what she felt when she got into the car. She said she had felt anger and frustration and like she was about to lose her mind before she got in the car then she felt a calming peace in the car. I told her that was the this was spirit of God. I asked her if she felt it now and she said yes. I told her God put her here so that she could feel this and know that he loved her.
I told her that God gives us commandments so that we can be happy. Following those commandments helps us even though in today’s world they tell us it takes power away from us, in reality it gives us power and makes us happy. I asked her if she had ever been to church, she said that her uncle had been a Seventh-day Adventist preacher but that it had been many years since she had attended church. I asked her if she had prayed or if she knew how to pray and she said she hadn’t prayed in a long time but she thought she could.
I told her that the first thing she should understand is that she is a daughter of our heavenly father and that he loves her no matter what mistakes she’s made and that he wants to be close to her if she’ll let him. She said she would love that.
I told her that what she felt now was his spirit that we were feeling it in the car and she said that she recognized it. I told her that being a daughter of God, she had known him for thousands of years. This feeling was very familiar to her and that to her it felt like home, not a home full of abuse and strife but a peaceful loving home. I told her, that’s what this feeling is. Through her tears she said I’ve always wanted to have a home like that. She said I love this feeling and you’re right, it feels like home and what home should be.
I asked her if she had ever heard about the Book of Mormon and she said yes. I asked her if she knew what it was and she said no. I explained to her that it was the religious writings of the prophets who lived in America and that God would reveal to them his word. They would write it just like in the Bible. I asked her if she knew Jesus Christ came to America and she said no. I explained to her that Jesus came to America because God is a God of everyone and loves everyone and he descended from heaven and talked to the people and loved them. She said that was beautiful.
I told her the Jesus Christ paid for our sins and that he suffered our tribulations, trials and the injustices that we have in our lives. By praying to our father in heaven and accessing the atonement of Christ she could feel relief from the pain and angst of her situation. She said, with the spirit in the car I’m already starting to feel the pain subside.
I told her Joseph Smith translated that record and we have it today. I told her Joseph Smith was a prophet and that we have prophets today who speak with God to give us counsel so that we can be happy.
I asked her if she had a copy of the Book of Mormon and she said no. I grabbed one of my copies prepared by Sister Secrist out of my bag and handed it to her. I said this is your copy of the Book of Mormon. When you read this and pray you will feel the peace that you have felt in the car. This way you can always have God with you.
I told her when Jesus came he asked everyone to be baptized even if they had been baptized before. I told her that Jesus wanted everyone to be clean and that he wanted her to be clean from the stain and pain of sin. She said, “I want that too”.
I told her that by reading the Book of Mormon she would find the path to freedom from the tragedies and chains of her past.
I asked her if she had any friends that were members of the church and she mentioned two that had just moved here from Philadelphia who lived in bountiful and they were very good friends. I asked her if they were strong members of the church and she said yes, very strong, they go to church every week. I asked her if she would call them tonight and tell them about what happened in the car and what she had felt in the car. She promised me that she would.
She said, I feel so much better now. I feel hope and I feel love. I told her that sometimes God puts people in my car for a message and she said I know that this was the case tonight. She said “I was inconsolable and God lifted me”. Once again I asked her to promise me that she would call her friends, she said,”I will, I want to be baptized and become clean.”. I told her the one thing I know for sure based on tonight is that God wants her to come home. She said, I want that too. She walked off, grabbed her phone and started calling.
During the ride there was a steady progression in her demeanor corresponding with the intensity of the spirit. At first she was very sad and angry but as the spirit worked on her and the hope of Christ filled her, she began to change. In the end she couldn’t wait to talk to her friends about the gospel.
