He calms turbulence too!

I picked this young lady up at the airport and she’d had a very stressful day. Because of weather her flight from back east had been delayed and she almost didn’t make her connection. She barely got on the flight to Salt Lake City and then it was very turbulent. She wasn’t feeling very good and on top of it they had to sit on the runway once they arrived.

I told her about a time that I had been on a turbulent flight where we hit bumps so big that it tipped over the drink cart and the flight attendant sat on the floor and started to cry. I said nothing gives you more confidence than a flight attendant sitting on the floor crying. She laughed.

I told her that one thing for sure is that I think that everybody on that plane was praying and almost all of them out loud. She laughed and said that she had done her share praying that day as well.

I told her that I suppose that attendance at church this Sunday would be mandatory for most all of those people. She laughed and said except for me! I said why? She said I consider myself to be spiritual and not religious.

I asked her what that meant. She said that her family were Christians (dad), Buddhist, (mom) and Catholics (grandma) She had never wanted to take a side.

I asked her if she thought that there was one God. She said yes. Each one of those religions taught there was one God but that she didn’t have a clue which one if any of those religions God would choose if he were here.

I told her that this was an age old question. I told her that just as there is turbulence in the sky also there is turbulence with regards to religion. I told her that this is why God has sent us Prophets throughout the centuries. The prophets have taught us God‘s will and pointed to the path we need to take. She agreed.

I told her that I was feeling by the spirit whispering to my heart that the turbulence in her life that she was feeling with regards to the spirit was much greater than anything she had just experience in the sky. I told her I felt like she had an empty spot and she was looking for the right religion to fill that hole. I said to her, wouldn’t it be great if you could find a path and one of those prophets, she said yes that would be amazing.

I told her that as children of our father in heaven we have a relationship with him and that if we’re not in his presence often or even continuously our soul gets hungry and feels starved for that. When that happens we get confused and seek to fill that hole sometimes with experimental beliefs or substances but the fruits of those experiments never fill that hole and bring peace to your life.

I told her that the spirit was telling her right now that what she needed to know and it was that her father in heaven loved her and that he missed her. I told her that she was his child and that he’s never far away if she’ll reach out to him. I told her that if she will do the things he asks and let him guide her to that path forward she will find incredible joy and happiness. I said that doesn’t mean you won’t have problems but you will know God is with you and you will feel peace in your soul.

She said that’s all you can ask for. I told her that there was a book called the Book of Mormon. I asked her if she never heard of it and she said yes. I asked her if she ever read it and she said no.

I described to her the tree of life vision where the are the people found the iron rod and followed it which was God‘s teachings to the tree of life where are they per took of the fruit. I told her that other people didn’t desire that enlightenment and they mocked those did and tried to drag them away. If they held tight and stayed with the tree and it’s fruit they were always be filled by the love of God.

She said that was beautiful. I told her that her spirit craved that fruit and that the Book of Mormon is one of our keys to find that path. The spirit had been present in the car for quite some time. It was sweet and steady. Then I bore my testimony of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon.

I told her that Joseph Smith was a young man seeking the truth because there were so many religions and they all said they had the truth. He went to the forest, he knelt and prayed. God the father and Jesus Christ appeared to him. They told him that the church with all of the truth did not exist in the world but they called him to be the prophet to restore the church on the earth. They called him to illuminate that pathway to the tree so that we can all return to God.

I told her that he translated the Book of Mormon which was the ancient religious record of the people who lived in America and it talked about the visit of Jesus Christ to the people here in America and that he said he would go to other people around the world and visit them as well. I testified again of Joseph Smith and the Book of Mormon and the truth. Now the spirit was very strong.

I asked her if God sent us his son, who would he send them to and she said everyone. I told her the Book of Mormon was the word of God and it was evidence that God was the God of all the world not part of the world and he loved everyone not just those who lived in Jerusalem and that he sent his son, Jesus, to peoples all over the world after he was resurrected. I said Jesus loves everyone and his father sent him to his children.

She had tears in her eyes and said “that sounds like truth to me, that feels like the word of God”. I asked her what it felt like, she said peace, enlightenment and energy at the same time. I said the spirit never lies.

She told me that in her life she had felt peace but she never felt anything like this. I told her that this is how she felt when she is in the presence of God. I told her that this is how she could tell if something was the truth, God would send his spirit to confirm and reveal his truth.

I told her that we had a prophet nowadays who speaks with God and shows us this path as well. I told her that if we follow his words and pray to God we can always have this peace in our soul. That is how you partake of the fruit of the tree.

I asked her if she had a Book of Mormon and she said no. I pulled out one of the books prepared by Sister Secrist and gave it to her. I said this is yours. She said, are you sure? I said yes. I told her this book would help her find that path, and that it would go through the waters of baptism and back to God. She said that that would be amazing. I asked her if she had friends who are members of the church and she said yes, then she said, I can’t wait to ask them why they haven’t told me about this!

She said to me that she always knew that God would send angels to lift people and bless them and tonight he had sent one to help her deal with the turbulence from her trip and calm the turbulence in her soul. She said she would call one of her friends that night! She wanted to see her new Book of Mormon.
