When ALL else seems hopeless god will send his love

I was downtown where there are lots of rides working a bonus streak. I needed to roll up as many numbers as I could in a short period of time. This means short rides really close together and that means more money! I was doing really well and then from downtown I got a call to go clear out to a bar in Magna. Magna again!

I got out to the bar and this gentleman who came out had a great big bushy beard and long hair. He was a little drunk and a little mellow so we started off and he asked me if I would drop by the 7-Eleven on the way home and then he changed his mind when he saw the Burger King still open. He said I would rather go to Burger King and get a real meal for my last meal.

I said what do you mean your last meal? He said tonight when I get home I’m going to eat and I’m going to kill myself. I could tell right away that he was serious and that he was troubled. I could feel that he had made a decision and it was a little bit scary. I asked him why in the world he would do something like that.

While he was talking I was praying that God would give me the words to say. He said that he was sick and tired of being alone. He said he had no one. His mom had left the family when he was young and she told him that she didn’t want him because he reminded her of his father. He said that as far as he knew he had no family and he was sick of being alone.

He had been in the military and served in Iraq and Afghanistan and he said that he had seen a lot of killing. He had been in a lot of battles and then the thought of killing himself didn’t bother him. He told me that tonight he went to the bar to tell his friend that he wanted him to have his flag from his coffin. I could tell his heart was breaking.

He said here we are, in another holiday season and again I’m going to spend this holiday season just like every holiday season since my father passed away 15 years, ago alone! He said, I can’t stand it and I just can’t go on. I’m too tired I can’t fight anymore. I’m fat and I’m ugly and nobody wants me.

By this time we had his food and we had started driving towards his home. I asked him if he believed in God and he said he believed in God. I said why would you do this if you believe in God? He said that he didn’t believe that God was against it.

I told him that I believed in God and that I believe that God had a message for him and a mission for him to do here on this earth. I told him that from time to time God puts people in my car when they need to feel the spirit and need to be lifted and today it was him.

I asked him if he prayed and he said he hadn’t prayed in years. I said that his father in heaven would love to hear from him and thats and how could he expect to get help and love from his father in heaven if he didn’t reach out. I told him that reaching out was the key. He had to reach out to God. He had to reach out to other people in service and when he did, he would find purpose and love in his own life. Those people will become his family. He said Nothing

He said he was a Catholic and from Oklahoma City and he hadn’t been to church in years. He never talked to a priest and he had never been taught to pray. I said, you should pray all the time and let God help you so that you don’t have to be alone.

Just then we were passing one of our church houses and it was close to HIS house. I said, that’s what you need to do! You need to go to the church right there Sunday morning at 9 o’clock. He said, I just got done telling you I’m Catholic. I said I don’t care this is where you need to go. The spirit was burning in me and in the car and the words came to my heart to say so I said them.

I promise you in the name of Jesus Christ if you will go to that church on Sunday, ask for and talk to the bishop and tell him what you’ve been telling me and then do everything he says that one year from now you wont be without family.

I told him that he needed to go to church so that he could feel the presence of God and that when he was baptized he would have the Holy Ghost with him and he could walk with God. He said, I’m all already baptized. I told him that this baptism is different because with this baptism he would be given the Holy Ghost, the spirit of God and as a constant companion. With that with this companionship, he would be led by God to people that would bless him with the things he needed.

Once again I said, I promise you in the name of Jesus Christ if you will go to that church, talk to the bishop and do the things he says these things will happen and the desires of your heart will be fulfilled. If that’s what you want here is your ladder to get you out of this hole.

He was very quiet, then he said, OK I promise you, I will go and I promise you I will do the things that the bishop tells me to do. I’ll do anything not to spend one more holiday season alone. I told him that the bishop was going to ask him to make changes in his life and he said he was willing to do it.

Just then his phone started dinging. It was his friends, they were worried about him. I told him that there were people who loved him and were worried about him and that he could help himself by reaching out to God and then reaching out to others.

He asked me if I would pray for him and I said that I would. We bowed our heads and said a prayer and there was power in the prayer. The spirit of God was there in the car with us and he felt it. I asked him, what does that feel like, did you feel something? He stammered for a minute and then said yes, I feel love. I told him that this was the spirit of God and that he, God, was fighting with me to save him. I asked him why God would send his spirit to be with us and he said because God wanted him to stay. He said that God wanted him to listen to me and I told him that this was right!

I said it’s all up to you. Now you have hope and you know you have the love of God. I said that once you start living the gospel of Jesus Christ everything will change. I also told him that now he had something to look forward to, Sunday when he could go and be in the presence of God and start down the path that would eventually bring him the family he so desired.

Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life.
