God won’t forget and Neither will she

One night I did a pick up in West Valley City I found the girl on the side of the road, not where the app said she would be. She got in and she said hello. We headed 15 minutes southwest so it was a pretty long drive. After I picked her up, felt the greatest wave of anger and disgust and despair hit me. She was clearly hurt damaged and in pain emotionally and spiritually.

I asked her how she was doing and she said I’m doing great but I knew that wasn’t the truth. Even though I couldn’t see her the feeling was so intense. So I said, it didn’t go very well tonight did it? She said what? I said it didn’t go like you wanted it to go tonight. You’re not happy with the way everything turned out. She said, I told you I was doing good.

This is a dangerous area because we’re not supposed to pry into personal lives but I decided to pray an then I decided Ed that I was supposed to do it anyway. I said, I just get the vibe that you’re upset, that you’re sad, that you feel betrayed and used.

She started openly crying and she said how do you know that? I said, it’s a feeling that I just can’t ignore. Through her tears she agreed and she said, “it hasn’t been a good night.”

I asked her if she wanted to talk about anything because, I said, you don’t know me, I don’t know you and you’ll never see me again. Sometimes that provides a really good foundation for a conversation. She was silent but the spirit told me to press on a little bit more.

I said you really liked that boy didn’t you?She was quiet for a minute then she said yes. I said then he used you and kicked you out to the curb. She said yes. I said, now you feel like you’re dirty, filthy and cheap. You feel horrible. She said yes.

How can you possibly know all of this? I told her that in my church when we get baptized we get the gift of the Holy Ghost and that gift of the Holy Ghost allows God to whisper to us the things we need to hear. I also told her that God puts people in my car when they’re struggling or when they need to get a message and today I felt like that was her.

She said I’m struggling for sure. I asked her if she was a religious person and she said she was a Catholic. I said I feel like there are some people who are praying for you and a lot of people who are on your side. I want to tell you about someone who’s always on your side and he loves you very much, that is your father in heaven. I told her that she had a relationship with her father in heaven for thousands and thousands of years and that this relationship had a feeling to it and that she loved it. To her it was a beautiful relationship.

I told her it’s the most amazing father- daughter relationship. I told her I felt like there were people looking out for her and people that loved her that are with God. She told me that her mother and father had passed away several years back and that she she knew they were watching out for her.

I said so you’re a Catholic? She said yes I said did you know what the difference is between Catholics and members of our church? She said no what is it? I said pretty much we believe everything you guys believe but a whole bunch more and a whole bunch of really neat things that make the difference.

I said, you feel like you are dirty and unclean. Through her tears that had not stopped now for over five minutes she said yes. I asked how would you like to be clean before God? how would you like to be clean spiritually and emotionally? She said I’d love that more than anything.

I taught her doctrine that many times we take for granted, we are a child of a loving father in heaven and this touched her to her soul.

I bore my testimony of the book of Mormon and the spirit came in the car. The spirit had been there as a shared the words the Lord put into my heart but when I testified it intensified and radiated.

I talked about the atonement and how in the atonement Jesus had suffered all the pain and embarrassment and shame and injustice and hurt that we feel in our lives. I told her that turning to him was the best way to deal with her situation. Turning to him and trying to follow his commandments.

I said, “If I could tell you how that happens would you be interested?” She said yes. I told her that Heavenly Father revealed through son, Jesus Christ how we were supposed to be baptized and gave us authority to do it. I told her that the baptism she had as a child was a beautiful statement of her and her parents love for her father in heaven and Jesus Christ. Now Heavenly Father was offering her more and a higher level and a new baptism and with that baptism would come complete remission of her sins and she would be pure and clean and able to stand before God.

She said that would be amazing. I told her about the Book of Mormon and how in the Book of Mormon Jesus came to America and went to the people who had already been baptized and asked them to take on this new baptism and this new covenant. They did because they wanted the same thing she wanted right then. I told her about the Book of Mormon and the prophets who wrote it and how God loves everyone in the world not just the people of Jerusalem and how the Book of Mormon is it testament that God loves everybody in the world not just the people in Jerusalem.

I testified of Joseph Smith and how he translated the words those prophets wrote so that we have it today. By this time the spirit in the car was undeniable and very strong and I asked her about the things that had been said in the car. She said “there’s no way on earth anybody could’ve known everything you do.”

I told her that God knew and the Spirit of God was there in the car to testify that the things I said were true and to let her know that they were of God. She said I believe! I know that’s true.

I told her that God put her in my car so that she could see this new path, so she could see this new way and come back to God. I told her that she could have that baptism and be cleansed and then take it to other people.

I told her that she could also do that work for her parents and help assure their salvation and their place in the kingdom of God. This touched her very much

I told her that if she should look at the night and see how she felt before and then how she felt not. How do you feel right now? She said I feel lifted, I feel better and I feel like I’m starting to heal. I said that’s what the spirit of God does and when you are baptized you can feel that way from your head to your toes.

She said that’s beautiful

I told her there’s no coincidence that she was placed in my car by God that night, so that she could hear this message. I told her that there’s no such thing as coincidence I said that she was here and I was sent to her at that time because she needed to be rescued and needed to hear this message. She agreed she loved the feeling in the car and she didn’t want to get out of the car.

We pulled up to her house. She loved with her uncle. Even though we had arrived she kept asking questions and talking about how she loved what she felt right then and how blown away she was by the whole event. I asked her if she had any friends who were members of the church and she said no. She said, she went to the Catholic high school and all of her associates were Catholic. I asked her if she knew where Mormon church was and she said right around the corner. I said every Sunday morning at 9 o’clock the members are there. She said, yes they are I said you should go there and tell them about what we’ve experienced.

They’ll have some missionaries help you get to where you want to be. She said, right now where I live with my uncle that might be really difficult. Is it OK if I do it down the road about six months? I felt impressed to tell her that if she’ll pray she’ll remember the feeling she had that night so that when she’s ready to make that move this same feeling will be waiting there for you.

It made me think that none of us have perfect circumstances and God sometimes plants seeds. He uses us to do that work. But boy does he provide the power to make it grow. That testimony that night was filled with the spirit and she knew it she couldn’t deny it. Someday that seed will grow. She thanked me.

One thing I noticed is that during the ride at some point she stopped crying and she started smiling. That’s what God can do for us

Behold, I am a disciple of Jesus Christ, the Son of God. I have been called of him to declare his word among his people, that they might have everlasting life.
