She loves to see the temple, she’ll go inside someday soon

I picked up a lady in Rose Park at about 12:15 one night. Rose Park isn’t exactly the place you want to be at 12:15 but this time it felt OK. It took her a long time to get to the car but finally she came up and knocked on the window. It startled me a little bit but we got it together and she got in the car.

We started to drive to the first location, she had two locations in the App, when I started out she said we are headed to the wrong place. She got us going to the right place, went in and got the things she needed and then came back out to the car. While she was gone I kept having the thought that she was here for a purpose. I decided I better find out what that was.

We were headed down to West Jordan so we jumped on California Avenue and then onto I 215. She told me we should get off on Redwood Road and that’s how she wanted me to go. The app clearly was giving directions that I was supposed to get off on 47th South.

I said to her are, you sure we’re not supposed to get off on 47th South and she said she was very sure, “it’s so much better on Redwood Road”. Then the spirit whispered to me and said that the reason why 47th South kept propping up was because I was supposed to talk about the building being completed off of 47 South. and I-215. It is the temple. It’s nearing the end of its construction.

I knew that there had to be a reason that the app was telling me to go on 47th South. When I saw the temple this made sense. The spirit told me exactly what it was and I knew what Heavenly Father wanted me to do. I also felt like someone else who loved her was in the car.

I said, well, as long as were driving by 47th south and not getting off we can still look at the temple that’s being built there, it’s a beautiful building! She said yes, it is, it’s gorgeous! At this point I didn’t know whether she was less active or not a member and we hadn’t had any discussion it. The spirit indicated to me that she was one of these so I knew that she was one or the other.

She didn’t smell like smoke, she wasn’t drunk, she was modestly dressed, she didn’t use very much foul language and the spirit told me that we needed to have a discussion about the temple.

I said to her, are you excited that once it is finished you get to go into it? She said, “what? go into a temple? I’ve never been in a temple! Are you sure? I would love to go into the temple and see what it’s like.” I told her that right after they finish building it, they will have an open house and for about three weeks people will be able to go through and see the temple. She said “I would love to do that! I’m going to do that.”

I told her, the other cool thing is that the Salt Lake Temple will be finished in a couple of years and she will be able to do the same thing there. She said, “oh my goodness! That would be a dream to go in that building!”

She said, you may not know it but my husband went on a mission for your church. We were members of your church right up until he was murdered. Her husband was murdered in 2006 and since then she had kind of dropped out of everything.

I saw why I was supposed to talk about the temples, I asked, you were never married in the temple were you? She said no! So you’ve never been in a temple I asked?. She said no. I said do you know what we do in temples? She said hold services I suppose. I said well, not really.

I told her that we are married in temples. I told her that when Peter was on the earth he was given power and authority by Jesus Christ to seal things on the earth that would be sealed in heaven and that we have that same authority today. I told her that we use that authority to seal marriages and seal families so that those people will be married and together in the next life. I told her that I was sealed to my wife. I told her that we do not do marriages “till death do us part” in the temple. I told her that temple marriages are forever.

She said that is amazing. She said “I wish I’d known about that”. I told her it’s not too late because the other thing we do in temples is we do work for people who have passed. I asked her if she’d ever heard of baptisms for the dead and she said yes. I told her that when Jesus was in the spirit world and his body was in the tomb before his resurrection he set up the preaching of the gospel to the people who had died. I told her that we go to the temple and we are baptized in their name so that they get a choice to accept the baptism or not. I told her that if my grandfather had died without being baptized I could go and be baptized for him so he could chose to accept this baptism. She said that’s awesome!

I told her that we also do marriages the same way. I told her that she could go to the temple and a worthy man could represent her husband. I told her that this way she and her husband could be married and sealed for time and all eternity. She was emotional, she was crying.

The spirit of God was in the car it was touching me and it was touching her. I could tell she was also feeling the presence of her husband and I said you’re feeling him here now aren’t you. She said yes, I am, how did you know? I told her that the gift of the Holy Ghost was whispering it to my heart. I told her that our father in heaven’s spirit was in the car and that it was telling me the things that she needed to hear.

I told her that her father in heaven wants her back. I told her that he wants her to go to church and go to the temple, not as a visitor in an open house but as a worshiper and a covenant maker. I told her that her heavenly father wants her to be sealed to her husband and that her husband wants to be sealed to her. That’s why I was sent here tonight.

I told her that God puts people in my car so that they can receive messages and he sends his spirit. He also sends the words to say. I told her that God and her husband wanted her to learn about the temple and start making a plan to get there.

She said, this is right! This is what I want to do. It would make my husband so happy. I told her that I felt like she was feeling sad. She said she was because she was thinking about her husband being killed.

I told her that the atonement of Jesus Christ was a complete sacrifice to make it so that we could walk with God through our lives and have him lift us in our burdens. I told her that Jesus Christ could help ease the pain of the suffering that she went through. I told her that God did not want her to suffer like this. I told her that the atonement of Jesus Christ and being sealed to her husband in the temple is God‘s way of helping her feel joy, love and happiness in the midst of her trials.

I asked her again if she could feel the spirit of God and she said yes. I told her that this is because the things I was saying were true. She said she knew it was.

I told her that her husband‘s not in pain and she said she knew that. I asked her why she should be in pain if he’s not? There was silence in the car the spirit was strong. I said God does not want you in pain. God wants you to look to his son Jesus Christ and his atonement. God wants you to pray. She said I don’t do that very much. She said “I will start.” I said God wants you to go to church and God wants you to prepare to go to the temple.

She asked is there someone I need to talk to that can help me get ready? I said yes! It is your Bishop. You need you to go to church and find out who the bishop is then go to him and tell him what we’ve talked about in the car tonight and tell him your story. I told her that he would know what to do to help her and that he would be able to get her to the temple. I told her that he would make it possible for her to be married to her husband for eternity .

She said, this ride seems like a dream. This is what I need to do. This is why you’re here. I said there’s one more thing, we need to find out where you go to church. She said, that’s a good idea I haven’t been in 20 years and I don’t know.

I put her address into the meeting house locator and came up with her ward, it met right behind her house. It also gave us the name of the bishop and the time of their meetings. I said, do you promise me you’ll go? She said, wild horses couldn’t keep me away at this point. God has told me this is what I need to do tonight in this car and I felt my husband here. I know this is what he wants me to do too. I took the picture of the meetinghouse locator page and showed it to her and she took a picture of that page off of my phone so that she could have the information

I said go to church ask for the bishop and he’ll probably have some missionaries come over and talk to you. They’re missionaries just like your husband was a missionary. She said, he would love that! This is what I need to do.

She thanked me and headed into her house. She turned around and waved five times in the time it to to cover the 10 yard sidewalk. She had a smile on her face and she had clearly been lifted by the spirit. I rolled down the window and said, I want you to promise to me one more time that you’ll go Sunday. She said, “I’ll be there”. I know that she will! She wants to get married, this time in the temple.
